NHLA was founded in 1898 when 37 lumbermen met in Chicago to establish uniformity in the grade and trade of hardwood lumber. 

Today, the National Hardwood Lumber Association is a membership-based international trade association dedicated to the hardwood industry. As the voice of the hardwood industry, NHLA represents the entire hardwood supply chain at all levels of production.

Our mission is to serve NHLA Members engaged in the commerce of North American hardwood lumber by maintaining order, structure, and ethics in the changing global hardwood marketplace; providing unique member services; promoting North American hardwood lumber and advocating the interest of the hardwood community in public/private policy issues; and providing a platform for networking opportunities.

Real American Hardwood Coalition

The RAHC is connecting the world to the benefits, beauty, and enduring value of American hardwoods for a sustainable future. This year, the RAHC launched its new Build Your World ™ advertising campaign in partnership with the Magnolia Network. 

The national campaign shows how products created with Real American Hardwood ™ can fit the style of every individual in a unique, sustainable way.  

The Real American Hardwood Coalition inspires a stylish and healthy environment by educating consumers on the many benefits of Real American Hardwood® products, including appearance, durability, lifetime value, healthy home, and sustainability.  The RAHC is made up of a united industry representing more than 2,100 companies from all hardwood producing states in the country.  The mission of the Real American Hardwood Coalition is to unite the collective efforts and resources of the industry to advance American hardwood as the Naturally Authentic™ choice.

U.S. Forest Service

The Forest Service is the Nation’s foremost Federal forestry organization, providing leadership in the management, protection, use, research, and stewardship of natural and cultural resources on our country’s vast forests and grasslands. The Forest Service was established in 1905 to sustainably manage our national forests and promote conservation across the land.  

The U.S. Forest Service works to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the nation’s forests and grasslands to meet the needs of present and future generations. Partners of the Forest Service include nonprofit and for-profit entities; rural, urban, and tribal communities; universities and minority-serving institutions; land management agencies; and more. The agency strives to engage underserved communities and recognizes the valuable contributions partners bring including traditional ecological knowledge; creativity and innovation for effective public outreach and education; experience in managing work projects; and subject-matter expertise. 

The Wood Innovations Grants Program stimulates, expands, and supports U.S. wood products markets and wood energy markets to support the long-term management of National Forest System and other forest lands.  Focus areas include mass timber, renewable wood energy, and technological development that supports hazardous fuel reduction and sustainable forest management.
